November Scouting Trip
November 2023 Scouting Trip Report
Ralph and Gary took a load of supplies to the ranches over Veteran’s Day weekend. Over the course of about a day and a half, we turned up 25 different bucks. It should be another great season!
Other notes on the trip:
-The ranch is pretty dry, but the vegetation is still mostly green. Shallow dirt tanks are dry, the deeper tanks and springs are still good sources of water for the deer, cattle and other wildlife on the ranch.
-Last winter had good precipitation and the early monsoon rains were good.
-During one of the summer monsoon storms, a lighting strike hit one of the power poles and started a fire. It appears to have been one of those “beneficial fires”, its difficult to tell exactly what burned in the area (no moonscape stuff like we see after some fires) before the rains put everything out. You can see some burned and ashy logs in some areas that will be good to glass this season!
-The deer, to put it bluntly, are fat. Gordos and Gordas if you prefer the Spanish terms. They are in great shape!
-Antler growth also looks to be great. Of those 25 bucks we saw over the course of a day and half, a handful of them would be considered no doubt shooters.
-Enjoy a few pictures from the trip below as well as a video clip of some Coues bucks.
